| Significance |
These relatively untouched sandhills, with their cover of native vegetation, are the last major relics of similar coastal dunes that once existed along the east coast of Gulf St Vincent. The dunes provide information on the processes of shoreline development during the Holocene (5,000 years), forming a double crested system with younger foredunes to seaward and older dunes inland. These dunes are also an important source for the replenishment of beach sand in the area. (Adapted from Geological Monuments in South Australia, item OM.2) |
