Significance The 1856 former church/school with its attached teacher quarters represents an early period of education in South Australia prior to the introduction of compulsory schooling for 7 to 13 year olds in 1875. The construction techniques employed in the building are significant and relatively rare (dowelled rafters, hand-hewn timbers, pug inner walls and large timber lintels). Its multiple use as a church on Sunday while rented to the Education Department after 1892 is also of interest (SHB Assessment Report, 2/1997).
