| Significance |
Built in c.1858, Wilson's Saddlery in Robe demonstrates the important economic and social contribution of the horse industry to the development of the South East of South Australia during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Robe was one of South Australia's most active and lucrative ports during the 1850s and 1860s and horses played a major role in land-based transportation of people and goods to and from the port. Horse breeding was also a major industry in the region, and horses were exported overseas via the port at Robe, including to India. |
