Registered Name |
Shirley Hall - Dwelling, Kitchen, Outhouse & Fences |
Significance |
Shirley Hall, originally called Chelsea, dates from the mid-nineteenth century and was built for WG Coulls, an engineer closely associated with the building of the Adelaide - Gawler railway which opened in 1857. It was later associated with the Thompson family, in particular James Thompson, who was a prominent local citizen. Its particular distinction lies in its design and fine workmanship and detailing. It is perhaps the most significant villa dwelling in Salisbury. (Adapted from the Salisbury Heritage Survey). |
