DESCRIPTION
Details (Known As) Balaklava Town Hall (former Balaklava and Dalkey Institute)

Significance The former Balaklava & Dalkey Institute (Dalkey was dropped from the name in 1922) was formed in 1876 and opened the original portion of the present building in 1881. A library and a lodge room were added in 1885, two dressing rooms in 1904, and the present Corinthian facade and extra accommodation in 1935. The building is notable for its facade. Also of interest are plaques commemorating the 1951 jubilee of Federation and the Centenary of the 1854 Battle of Balaclava in the Crimean War. (The Hundred of Balaklava was proclaimed on 21 May 1856). (Heritage of the Lower North 1983).
