DESCRIPTION |
Details (Known As) |
Dunn's Bridge over the River Wakefield [Bowstring Truss] |
Registered Name |
Dunn's Bridge |
Significance |
This bridge is one of five rivetted wrought iron bow string trusses built in the Northern districts by the Roads Board under the supervision of Mr William Morris between 1879 and 1880 (the others were Kooringa, Merriton, Redruth and Undalya). Completed in 1880, this bridge was the last of the group and the second largest in terms of span length (25.2m). The bridge reflects the expansion and development of the road system in South Australia and the evolution of the use of iron as an alternative to masonry or timber in bridge construction (HSA, 2/2000). |
