'Monta Flora' Homestead and Cottage |
Registered Name |
Monta Flora Homestead and Cottage |
Significance |
'Monta Flora' was established by David Smyth in the early 1860s and is representative of the larger and more successful farming properties in the district. Like many settlers in the region, Smyth started in a small way by leasing and buying land as the opportunity arose, gradually building up a large and lucrative holding. The original pug and stone cottage represents the early stages of the establishment of the property whose subsequent success is indicated by the 17 roomed house completed between 1879-82.
