| Significance |
Originally established in 1847, this property was first owned by William Mitchell and known as Mount Gambier Station. It became the Moorak Station in the 1860s after it was acquired by W J and J H Browne who extensively upgraded the property, including the homestead. It is representative of the large pastoral holdings in the South East of the State in the second half of the 19th century and is also associated with Catholic education in the district, being acquired by the Roman Catholic Church for use by the Marist Brothers in 1929 (Mount Gambier Heritage Survey, 1994). |
