Adare Conference Centre (former Dwelling 'Adare') |
Registered Name |
House ('Adare') |
Significance |
'Adare' is of State heritage significance because of its association with the development of Port Victor as a major tourist resort and its association with the Cudmore family. Designed by Frederick Dancker, 'Adare' is also significant because of the high quality of its design and detailing and its grand scale. It is claimed Dancker was the first to introduce turret roofs into South Australia and the first South Australian to call for the use of reinforced concrete in walls. Dancker was also responsible for the design of the former residence that is now part of the Burnside Memorial Hospital, the Queen Victoria Hospital, St Paul's Lutheran Church at Hahndorf and the Malvern Uniting Church.
