Significance This is a very good vernacular building of limestone and brick. The various extensions and sheds illustrate the improvised growth and development of a cottage into a large house, as has been common in the town. The house was occupied for many years by a captain of the river boats, Captain Richie. The original cottage was erected in 1885 and was built of timber hewn for building river boats. The limestone front section with turret was added in 1917. An old cannon is mounted above the entrance porch.
