Former Port Elliot Waterworks including Well and Remnant Pipework |
Registered Name |
Former Port Elliot Waterworks including Well and Remnant Pipework |
Significance |
This site represents the first relatively large scale hydraulic engineering project in South Australia. The gravity fed system was an integral part of the development of Port Elliot as the sea port for the Murray River trade. The expeditious completion of this project (pre-dating the reticulated supply to Adelaide) reflects the importance placed on the town and the use of the Murray as an interstate trade route.
