DESCRIPTION |
Details (Known As) |
Nildottie Well Site, including well, limestone chimney, pump, steam engine and boiler, two tanks, three troughs and pine hut |
Registered Name |
Nildottie Well |
Significance |
This well, the earliest in the district, was probably sunk in 1859 and upgraded in 1874. It is associated with the expansion of pastoralism into the mallee areas away from the water supply of the River Murray. Like many in the district, the pump for the well was steam-powered, and Nildottie remains now as a rare surviving example of a steam-powered stock watering system.
