Former Coffin Bay Whaling Site, Coffin Bay National Park [Designated as a place of archaeological significance] |
Registered Name |
Former Coffin Bay Whaling Site, Coffin Bay National Park |
Significance |
The site of the Coffin Bay Whaling Station at Point Sir Isaac provides evidence of one of the Colony's first export industries, of which little is known or documented. It is one of a very small number of whaling station sites which have been located in South Australia and may yield information about the whaling industry and the living and working conditions of the whalers engaged in it.
