Significance The building known as Pastor Rechner's cottage is one of only two known German barnhouses in South Australia and the only one that has been located to date in the Barossa Valley region. The building displays many of the typical features of fachwerk construction, a building form common to early South Australian German architecture. It also contains a relatively intact stable with a rare example of timber slab floor and drain treatment.
