St Cyprian's Church Hall (Former St Cyprian's Day School) |
Registered Name |
St Cyprian's Church Hall (Former St Cyprian's Day School) |
Significance |
The former St Cyprian's church school, completed in 1894, is a well preserved example of an Anglican church day school. The school represents the importance placed by the Anglican Church on the provision of education for the disadvantaged and working classes, particularly in the North Adelaide area which lay under the control of Christ Church, considered to be church of the 'establishment' in Adelaide. Church day schools, along with Sunday Schools, were also the main source of religious education for those who desired it, until the introduction of religious education in the state school system in the 1940s (HSA Assessment Report 5/2002). |
