DESCRIPTION |
Details (Known As) |
Suspension Bridge over the River Light |
Registered Name |
Suspension Bridge |
Significance |
An interesting vernacular structure utilising living red gum tree trunk supports. This suspension bridge provided access from the early 'Kilburnie' homestead on the north of the River Light to stock sheds and a workman's cottage on the south of the river. It was possibly built by Wilcox, the owner c.1900, or earlier. It is typical of these bridges, with steel cable support and heavy wooden plank floor. Its long overall span stretching from tree to tree makes this example the most significant of those surviving in the district. |
