DESCRIPTION |
Details (Known As) |
Dwelling - A prefabricated 'Manning' house |
Registered Name |
"Manning" house |
Significance |
In the 1830s and 1840s, approximately 200 kit homes made by John or Henry Manning were brought to South Australia by settlers who had, with great foresight, planned their move to the new colony. Present knowledge would suggest that there are only six extant examples of these prefabricated dwellings, either whole or partial, with five currently (2006) being State Heritage Places. The rarity and condition of the early prefabricated building makes it of great heritage value and architectural significance. |
