Administration Building, Hampstead Centre |
Registered Name |
Administration Building, Hampstead Centre |
Significance |
The Hampstead Centre (formerly the Metropolitan Infectious Diseases Hospital) was opened in 1932. It was specifically designed and purpose-built to care for and treat patients with infectious diseases such as polio, scarlet fever, measles and diphtheria. With the introduction of new drugs and immunisation programs commencing in the 1940s, the need for such a hospital diminished, but it represents the days when such diseases were greatly feared. The Administration Building best represents the work of the hospital. |
