Registered Name |
Shady Grove Unitarian Church and Cemetery |
Significance |
The Shady Grove Unitarian Church is a well-preserved non-conformist church and school building which has been little altered. It is of special significance as the only surviving 19th-century building associated with the Unitarian church. As such, it demonstrates the special religious diversity typical of mid-19th-century South Australia and reveals significant information about the history, development and usage of Unitarian Churches in particular. It also has significant associations with the development of religious and political thought during the 19th & 20th century, and reveals insight into the beliefs of several significant South Australian thinkers, including Catherine Helen Spence
(Mount Barker Heritage Survey (2004). |
