Registered Name |
DSTO (former Salisbury Explosives Factory) Site - Portion of the Headquarters Area (Former Administration Section) - Buildings 1, 2, 3, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 27 and 28 |
Significance |
These area includes a broad range of different buildings from the two-storeyed HQ2, to a one-time hospital and a canteen building, to two bunker-type storage buildings and two air-raid shelters. All except the air-raid shelters are similar to others of the larger site with their red-brick construction.
These buildings are some of the most significant architecturally on the large site and have been associated with the administration of the larger site since the inception of the explosives factory. Consequently the group has been an integral part of the large explosives factory built during World War II and which was converted for use by the Anglo-Australian Joint Project after the war. It has continued to be used as a site for the design and development of defence science projects since that time. |
