Significance The former Brighton Town Hall demonstrates the establishment of local government and the development of social and cultural life in Brighton. It is closely associated with the formation of the community of Brighton, which was amongst the earliest of the inner metropolitan Adelaide suburbs. The place is associated with Australia's first female politician, Susan Grace Benny. As the setting of her two terms of office as Councillor between 1919 and 1922, the building is closely associated with the participation of women in the democratic process in South Australia.
