Registered Name Alberton Railway Station including Station Building, Western Platform and Footbridge
Significance The Adelaide - Port Adelaide railway was the first steam line in the Colony when it opened in 1856. Alberton is significant for being one of the two surviving original stations buildings, the other being Bowden (registered place 10557). Portions of the western platform are believed to date from 1856. The footbridge dates from the duplication of the line in 1881 and is one of two left in the State, the other being at Blackwood. It was partially rebuilt in the 1990s. [HB: 2/06]
