Registered Name |
Sleep's Hill Tunnel & Viaduct Foundations |
Significance |
The tunnel and the remains of the viaducts are significant for their association with the construction of the Adelaide to Nairne railway which was to eventually link Adelaide with the eastern states. The railway tunnel, the first to be built in South Australia, and the two viaducts, were a major engineering feat for the time and represent the railway engineering technologies available in the early 1880s.
