Dwelling ('St Mary's Lodge') |
Registered Name |
Dwelling - St Marys Lodge |
Significance |
St Mary's Lodge is significant for its association with Thomas Martin, owner of one of Willunga's notable early businesses, the Willunga Slate Quarry. In the 1860s Martin considerably extended an existing dwelling on the site which possibly dated from the 1840s. Martin arrived from England in 1847 and acquired Williams and Polkinghorne's quarry, which he ran as the Willunga Slate Quarry. |
