Significance |
This cottage is a tangible reminder of the early settlement in the Norwood area. It has been owned by the Wall/Strike family since it was built in the early 1850s up to the present day (1990), which adds to its historical value. The cellar, of interesting brick-lined barrel-vaulted construction, is reputed to be the first wine cellar in the Norwood area. Edward Wall, for whom the building was constructed, owned several acres of vineyards. Wall was connected with many trades such as farming, viticulture, masonry and building. Several buildings in the Wall Street area were constructed by him. The building has both architectural and historical interest and is a good representative of the style of domestic architecture during the early days of settlement of South Australia. |
