| Significance |
Eden Park is a substantially intact and excellent example of a large architect designed residence of the 1890s. Constructed in 1898 for Thomas Roger Scarfe, a partner in the retail firm of Harris Scarfe & Co, the house represents the type of dwelling constructed on large estates by Adelaide's wealthier classes. It displays an interesting combination of architectural styles, with flamboyant Anglo-Dutch elements tempered by Victorian tradition. Internally the house retains an excellent range of domestic embellishment from a variety of design sources, including a notable central stair hall surmounted by an elegant floral stained glass skylight, the work of E F Troy. (Adapted from Conservation Plan, Eden Park, Marryatville, 1993). |
