DESCRIPTION |
Details (Known As) |
Dwelling ('Lyndhurst') |
Registered Name |
Lyndhurst |
Significance |
This house is significant for the unique combination of architectural features and detailed embellishments displayed, especially in the western wing of the building. These details include polychromatic brickwork to the walls and chimneys, dragon motifs on verandah cast ironwork and leadlighting work in Art Nouveau style, which, apparently imported from Italy in the late 1880s, was more than two decades ahead of its time in South Australia. The house is also important for its representation of a progressively built farmhouse of the late 19th century. |
