Blinman Dome Diapir [Designated as a place of geological significance] |
Registered Name |
Blinman Dome Diapir, via Blinman |
Significance |
The Blinman Dome is one of several diapiric structures in the Flinders Ranges. Presumed to be formed by the upwelling of material (triggered by tectonic forces) into the surrounding rocks, these diapirs are of significance to the study of geological influences on sedimentary strata. Part of the Blinman Dome diapir is exposed in the Blinman Copper Mine, an easily accessible site for the inspection of mineralization typical of the Blinman Dome 'diapir' and the associated rock types (HSA, 2/2000). |
