DESCRIPTION |
Details (Known As) |
Ilka Creek Diapir [Designated as a place of geological significance] |
Registered Name |
Ilka Creek Diapir, Moralana Station |
Significance |
At this locality there is the best known exposure in the Flinders Ranges of contact between 'diapiric' breccia and 'host' rock, consisting of flat-lying Marinoan Brachina Formation. The exposure is excellent and details of the geology are displayed in the finest detail. The abrupt truncation of the Brachina Formation siltstones at the contact and the irregularity of the subvertical contact surface, apparently following joint and bedding planes of the siltstones, suggest that it is intrusive. |
