DESCRIPTION |
Details (Known As) |
Glenside Hospital - Former Medical Officer's Residence |
Registered Name |
Glenside Hospital - Former Medical Officer's Residence |
Significance |
The residence was built as the home of the first Medical Officer/Superintendent at the Parkside Lunatic Asylum (Dr W C Cleland, 1878-1913) and his successors, and is a good representative example of an Italianate villa of the late 19th century. Its large size, accommodation for service staff and prominent siting, away from the main Asylum buildings, illustrate the importance and stature attributed to the role of Asylum Superintendent.
