DESCRIPTION |
Details (Known As) |
Dalhousie Homestead Ruins, Witjira National Park |
Registered Name |
Dalhousie Homestead Ruins, Witjira National Park |
Significance |
Dalhousie Homestead Ruins are of heritage value as an example of a pastoral station complex surviving from the early pastoral industry of the mid-nineteenth century. The site has a low to medium degree of archaeological potential. This is due to the high level of public visitation (and hence fossicking) and other intervention which has occurred there. Archaeological investigation of the site may provide information on the development of the pastoral industry, the lives of the inhabitants (including Aboriginal workers), the European approach to surviving in a remote and hostile environment, and their relationship and interactions with the local Aborigines.
