| Significance |
The Fletcher's Slip Precinct, which includes the site of the original (1851) Fletcher's Slip, the remaining portion of the Dunnikier Slip (1867) and associated structures, is significant as the site of the first commercial slip, shipbuilding and repair premises in Port Adelaide. Its most significant period of operation was between 1851 and 1987, and the slips and associated buildings represent the longest serving, relatively extant such site in Port Adelaide and the state and the ongoing development of the state's premier port.
The site demonstrates a complicated history of adaptation to changes in ownership, technologies and demand typical of many industrial sites and has the potential to provide further information on the development of shipbuilding technology and the site itself over a period of 130 years (HB Assessment Report 5/2009).
